Overview
The all new 1998 Volkswagen Beetle is significantly larger than the original Beetle. Unlike the previous Beetle, the new Beetle's engine placement is in the front of the vehicle instead of the rear. The new Beetle features an optional 1.9 liter 90 hp TDI 4-cylinder engine. Standard features include air conditioning, a six-speaker cassette stereo and a central locking system with remote. Original Beetle features have influenced the interior of the new Beetle such as a large assist handle above the glove compartment and a single instrument gauge which displays the speed, fuel, rev counter and engine temperature. The new Beetle also features crumple zones, front and rear headrests, daytime running lights and front seat-mounted side airbags.
