Overview
The new M-Class fulltime 4WD All Activity Vehicle (AAV) is the first Mercedes-Benz product to be built in the U.S.. The M-Class is manufactured at the new Tuscaloosa, Alabama factory where they plan to produce 60,000 to 70,000 units per year, half of which will be exported. Intended to be a family car and an off-roader, the M-Class will debut the new line of V6 engines from Mercedes. The 215 hp, 3.2L aluminum V6 engine will be followed by an optional V8 for the 1999 model year. Unique features on the M-Class include the longest wheelbase in it+s segment and the largest side doors on a midsize SUV allowing for easy access. Some of the M-Class safety features include front seat belt pretensioners and side driver/passenger impact air bags.
