The 1997 C-Class sedan is available in three models - C230, C280 and C36 AMG. New for 1997, the C230 model replaces the C220 model. The standard five-speed automatic transmission is a new addition for these models. The ignition key transponder is a new security feature, a chip imbedded in your key is coded which eliminates duplicated keys to start the car without the unique chip. In addition, the universal garage door opener is also a new convenience feature for this model year. The high performance C36 AMG will only be available on limited production.
