Overview

The 1996 Mercedes Benz S Class is available in five models -- S320 Standard Wheelbase, S320, S420 and S500 sedans; and S500 coupe. A five-speed automatic transmission is now standard for all S Class models. Optional for the S420 and the S500+s is the new Electronic Stability Program (ESP) which detects the car sliding from its intended track and applies brake pressure to corresponding tires to help the driver maintain control. Standard safety features include traction control for S320 models and automatic slip control for S420 and S500+s. Additional standard features include power glass sunroof and memory controls that adjust the heated front seats, outside heated mirrors and steering wheel position.
