Overview

The 1999 Miata has a more powerful, yet more efficient, engine than its predecessor. It is also more rigid. The interior is restyled with more trunk room. The most obvious exterior change is the exposed oval headlights and a larger grille opening. There are five option packages to choose from. These include the Power Steering Package, Touring Package, Popular Equipment Package, Leather Package, and the Sports Package. Extensive computer modeling was used to increase the bending and torsional rigidity of the Miata while keeping its weight low. With the top down, Mazda adds a Windblocker behind the seats which virtually eliminates the reverse flow of air coming over the windshield and rushing forward into the cockpit between the seats.
