Overview

The 1999 XJ Series sedans are available in four models: the standard-wheelbase XJ8; the long-wheelbase XJ8 L; the luxurious long-wheelbase Vanden Plas; and the supercharged XJR. New for 1999, few mechanical changes was implemented such as revised cruise control and electronic throttle, dual-tipped platinum spark plugs and modified pistons. The XJR front disc brakes were upgraded from 12.0 inches to 12.8 inches. In addition, the XJR+s interior burl walnut replaces stained bird+s-eye maple. New exterior colors for all models except XJR: Alpine and Emerald for the Vanden Plas. The service schedule requires spark plug change at 100,000 miles and oil change intervals of 10,000 miles under normal driving condition, reducing maintenance cost.
