Overview
For 1998, Jaguar Cars introduces the XJ8 model range. The XJ8 replaces the XJ6. The new XJ Series sedans are available in four levels: the Base XJ8, the long-wheelbase XJ8L, the Vanden Plas and the supercharged XJR. All four sedans are powered by Jaguar's new 4.0-liter V8 engine. This is coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission that includes two driver-selectable shift modes, Sport and Normal. The XJ sedans are fitted with standard Automatic Stability Control, which reduces wheelspin on slippery roads by controlling the engine and throttle. Other standard equipment include wood veneer instrument panel, leather interior and a steering wheel with switches for cruise control, the audio system and the dealer-installed telephone.
