Overview
The redesigned Mountaineer has received new exterior styling and an improved powertrain for 2002. Available with either two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, this SUV is powered by a flexible fuel 4.0L, 210 horsepower engine coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission. Standard safety features include four-wheel anti-lock brakes, dual second generation airbags, and child safety seat anchors. Side curtain airbags are available at an extra cost. The Mountaineer now comes equipped standard with a CD player, sport bucket seats, and 16-inch aluminum wheels. A newly designed independent rear suspension has been added, as well as the addition of a stowable third row seat, bringing the Mountaineer's seating capacity to seven.
