Overview
Saab's performance-oriented Viggen line has returned this year with minor changes. Based on Saab's 9-3 model, the Viggen is available as a two-door hatchback, a four-door hatchback, or a convertible. All Viggens are equipped with a 2.3L 230-hp turbocharged engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. To the standard 9-3 bodywork, the Viggen adds larger front and rear spoilers and rocker panel extensions, giving the car a more aerodynamic profile. New for 2001, all 9-3 Viggens will receive the OnStar System and Saab's Traction Control System as standard equipment. With the purchase of a new Viggen (the Swedish word for thunderbolt), Saab offers a free two-day driver training course at the Road Atlanta complex near Norcross, Georgia.
