Overview

The 2001 Montero has been redesigned and is now available in two models: XLS and LTD. Exterior restyling includes a new rigid unibody construction, raised front fenders, and a larger wheelbase. The main interior revision is the addition of a rotating sub-floor storage mechanism, which allows the third seat to be stored under the floor for greater cargo space. Overall interior room for passengers has been increased. Also, for the first time, the Montero is standard equipped with four wheel independent double wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. The XLS features a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, while the LTD model boasts a Sportronic five-speed automatic transmission.
