Overview

The Acura RL returns for 2006 with little change. New for this year is an optional Technology Package that consist of a Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), adaptive cruise control, and Michelin PAX run-flat tires. The CMBS system uses a millimeter-wave radar unit mounted inside the grille to monitor and determine the closing rate between the RL and the vehicle in front. If the system determines that a collision is inevitable, the system retracts the driver and front passenger seatbelts and applies the brakes to reduce the speed of impact. The RL remains powered by a 3.5-liter VTEC V6 mated to a five-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission. The navigation system features the XM NavTraffic service that displays up-to-the-minute traffic information.
