Overview

A year after being redesigned, Nissan's small SUV returns for this year with a new entry-level vehicle and a larger standard equipment list. The Xterra is available in 2WD or 4WD and in four trims: the new X, S, Off-Road, and SE. All models are equipped with a 265-hp 4.0L DOHC V6 engine coupled to either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. The Power Package, which features a vehicle alarm, remote keyless entry, cruise control, and power convenience features, is now standard on the S and above trims. Also new for 2006, all Xterra models include a standard glove box lock, lamp, and damper. Midnight Blue joins the exterior paint choice list, while Charcoal is now offered as an interior color on Off-Road models.
