Overview

For 2006, the ‘new' New Beetle receives an exterior freshening, along with powertrain changes designed to give the vehicle an enhanced performance feel through a streamlined and somewhat more modern appearance. Available in three trims--2.5 and TDI hatchback and 2.5 convertible, the Beetle reveals new front and rear fascias, side sills, and fenders to show off the more aggressive styling. Updated head and tail lamp treatments feature narrower, more oval-shaped lights and slimmer turn signals. The base engine is now a 2.5L 150-hp five-cylinder engine. The 2.0L and 1.8L have been deleted from the model line, but the fuel-efficient 1.9 TDI engine remains available. New colors for this year include Shadow Blue, Gecko Green, and Salsa Red.
