Overview
The Mountaineer enters 2006 completely redesigned, including a more powerful engine, refined exterior, all-new interior, and improved mechanics. Along with an improved base V6 engine, Mercury's intermediate utility now offers a 292-hp 4.6L V8 coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. For improved ride and handling, the Mountaineer also features an all-new rear suspension, a revised front suspension, a stiffer frame, and larger brakes. Also new for this year is the Personal Safety System, which equips the vehicle with traction control, roll stability protection, and active and passive restraints. Rounding out the list of changes is the addition of integrated power running boards, which retract into hidden rocker panels.
