Overview
The all-new 2005 Xterra is available in three trims: S, Off-Road, and SE in either two-wheel or four-wheel drive configurations. The new Xterra is built on a modified version of the F-Alpha platform that is used on the full-size Titan and Armada. This increases the Xterra's wheelbase by two inches, width by 2.4 inches, and over-all interior dimensions. Powering the Xterra is a new larger displacement version of Nissan's VQ engine found in the Maxima, 350Z, and Altima. The 4.0L DOHC V6 engine, mated to either a six-speed manual or a five speed automatic, produces 265 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. A premium 300-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system with nine speakers, steering wheel controls, and MP3 capabilities is optional on the S and Off-Road but standard on the SE.
