Overview

The Escape returns for 2005 with some key revisions, including a new base engine and an updated interior. Ford's compact utility is now equipped with a larger 2.3L engine producing 153 horsepower. The 200-hp 3.0 V6 is still offered on the higher trims. The four-wheel drive system has also been replaced with a new electronically controlled system. Safety has been enhanced for this year with the availability of full-length side airbags. The interior has also been freshened with new white-faced gauges, redesigned seats, a floor mounted gear shifter, and additional storage compartments. Finally, Ford introduces the XLT Sport trim to the Escape line-up, which adds unique aluminum wheels, two-tone paint, and black side step bars.
