Overview
The Accord Coupe returns for 2004 with minimal changes. There are only two trims available on the Accord coupe: LX and EX in four-cylinder or V6 engine configurations. The 2.4L i-VTEC four-cylinder engine produces 160 hp and 161 lbs.-ft of torque while the 3.0L VTEC V6 is capable of producing 240 hp and 212 lbs.-ft of torque. Both engines are available in a low emissions output format (PZEV and ULEV) in California and some parts of the Northeast. All Accords are available with manual or automatic transmission, with or without side air bags or side curtain air bags and in cloth or leather interior depending on the trim and engine combination you choose. A navigation system is available on the EX models with leather interior.

Corrective Action
ON VEHICLES WITH 15,000 MILES OR LESS, THE DEALER WILL UPDATE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A SIMPLE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE TO INCREASE LUBRICATION TO THE SECOND GEAR. ON VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 15,000 MILES, THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION TO IDENTIFY GEARS THAT HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED DISCOLORATION DUE TO OVERHEATING. IF DISCOLORATION EXISTS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE REPLACED IF DISCOLORATION IS NOT PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL PERFORM THE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 21, 2004, FOR PILOT, ODYSSEY, AND MDX OWNERS. OWNERS OF THE ACCORD VEHICLES WILL START RECEIVING LETTERS ON JUNE 28, 2004, AND ON JUNE 29, 2004, FOR OWNERS OF THE TL AND CL VEHICLES. ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE SEAT POSITION SENSOR (SPS) DETECTS THE DRIVER'S SEATING POSITION AND ADJUSTS THE AIR BAG INFLATION PRESSURE ACCORDINGLY. THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE SPS WAS ATTACHED TO THE SEAT FRAME IN THE WRONG LOCATION AND MAY HAVE BEEN OVER TIGHTENED. THE SENSOR WIRE MAY BREAK AND CAUSE THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TO BE ILLUMINATED, AND THE SPS TO FAIL.
Consequences
A FAILURE OF THE SPS CAUSES THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TO DEFAULT TO FULL INFLATION PRESSURE, REGARDLESS OF THE SEAT POSITION. FULL DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY FOR SMALLER DRIVERS IN A FRONTAL CRASH.
Corrective Action

THESE HEADLAMPS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THESE LAMPS DO NOT CONTAIN THE REQUIRED AMBER SIDE REFLECTORS.
Consequences
DECREASED LIGHTING VISIBILITY MAY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Corrective Action
