Overview
The 2004 Ford Explorer four-door SUV returns with no major changes. The Explorer is again available in 2WD, 4WD, and AWD configurations. Trim lines include XLS, XLS Sport, XLT, XLT Sport, NBX (4WD only), Eddie Bauer, and Limited. All Explorers are equipped with a 4.0L 210-hp V6 engine coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission. A 4.6L 239-hp V8 engine remains optional on all models except the XLS. V8 powered Explorers (accept AWD) may also be equipped with Ford's AdvancTrac Stability Control System at extra cost. Options include front safety air curtains, a power moonroof, a rear seat entertainment system, a reverse sensing system, and auxiliary air conditioning. Various Trailer Towing Prep Packages can also be optionally equipped.
