Overview

For 1999, the Volvo S80 sedan is introduced and is available in two models, the 2.9 and the T-6 Turbo. The S80 replaces last years S90 sedan. The S80 is the first model built on the new Volvo large platform that is front wheel drive and includes a transverse mounted inline 6-cylinder engine. New standard features include the WHIPS Whiplash Protection System, inflatable air bag curtain for the front windows and a revised multiplex electrical system. Additional standard features include the 201 horsepower 2.9 liter engine, ignition immobilizer theft deterrent system, and power seats, windows and door locks. The S80 T-6 model includes a 268 horsepower twin turbocharged 2.8 liter engine and the Geartronic 4-speed automatic transmission.
