Overview

The 1996 Jetta is available six models--GL, GLS, Wolfsburg, TDI, Trek and GLX. New for 1996 are a variety of exterior paint colors available on all models. A 2.0L engine is standard on the GL and GLS, while the GLX sports a 2.8L VR6 engine offering 172 horsepower and the TDI with 1.9L engine. Standard safety features include daytime running lights, dual air bags, child safety locks and side impact protection beams. Also standard on all models are bucket seats, tinted windows, central power locking system and locking center storage console with armrest. Optional features include four-speed transmission, compact disc changer and clearcoat metallic paint. Front fog lights and a rear spoiler is available on the Wolfsburg and Trek model.
