Overview
For 1998, the GMC Sonoma returns with many changes to the interior and exterior. Concerning the interior, there are new instrument panel improvements. There is a new gauge cluster, dash and cowl side panels. Air conditioning outlets also feature shutoff controls that completely stop airflow. The center console, in Sonoma models with bucket or bench seats, has also been redesigned. On Sonoma models with an automatic transmission, the shifter has moved to the steering column. Concerning the exterior, the Sonoma features a new front bumper, fascia and grille enhancements. The Sonoma is available in six models: the SL and SLS Regular Cab and the SLS Extended Cab. All are available in 2WD or 4WD. A Sportside truck bed is optional.
