Overview
The 1998 CL-Class is available in two models - CL500 and CL600 coupe. The CL-Class is a new designation for the coupes which were formerly part of the S-Class line. New for 1998 is the Flexible Service System (FSS). The FSS measures actual vehicle use to determine optimal service intervals. Also new are the BabySmart system and the Brake Assist feature. The BabySmart system deactivates the front passenger air bag in the presence of a BabySmart compatible child seat. The passenger seat is equipped with an occupant detection sensor so that the passenger air bag will not deploy when detecting less than 25 lbs. The CL models also include the Parktronic System which calculates the vehicles distance from nearby objects using sound waves.
