Overview
The 1998 Econoline cargo van is being built in Lorain, Ohio with the same engine line up as 1997. This line up includes a standard 4.2L V6 and optional Triton 4.6L V8, 5.4L V8, 6.2L V10 and 7.3L DI Turbo Diesel. Ford is offering an optional Triton 6.8L V10 engine. A benefit from these engines is that they do not require a tune-up until the engine has been driven 100,000 miles. The Econoline also comes equipped with new depowered air bags and a new audio line up. For 1998, three new exterior colors will be offered: Light Blue, Deep Forest Green and Caribbean Green. Covering 48% of the market, the Econoline has been the segment leader for 18 consecutive years and has the highest government fornt crash test rating of any full-size vans.
