Overview
Introduced this year is the all new CLK 320 coupe which shares the same platform with the C-class sedan. The CLK stands for Coupe, Light, and Kurz; kurz, which in German stands for short. This coupe plans to replace the E-class coupes and also introduces the new line of V6 engines with a 5-speed automatic driver-adaptive transmission. 9,000 production units are planned to be sold in the U.S. for it+s first year. Two more versions of the CLK are in the works which we might see for the 1998 model year. These versions include a convertible and an AMG Performance model. Also making it+s debut on the racing circuit is the CLK-GTR Racer, built by AMG, which will be available as a street version in limited production and special order.
