The1997 Elantra is available in two models - (Base) sedan and (Base) wagon. Both models are also in a GLS package which includes standard power interior and convenience equipment not available on the (base) Elantra. Engineering modifications for 1997 includes significant improvements in noise and vibration dampening with double layer insulation pads in both the hood and dash areas. Road noise is further isolated by increasing the thickness of the steel floor plan. Ergonomic refinements include an efficient instrument panel with easy to reach climate and audio controls. Available in either 5-speed manual overdrive or 4-speed automatic with overdrive. The Elantra offers an array of interior, exterior and safety options and packages.
