Overview
All new for 1997, the Camry is available as a sedan only, in three trim levels - CE(replaces DX), LE and XLE. The new design results in improved aerodynamics, a strengthened body structure, and roomier interior. Enhancements over the previous model include rear headrests on all trim levels, increased torque and horsepower for the both four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, and dual cup holders for rear seat passengers. Traction control is now available on LE and XLE models; and an integrated rear child safety seat is available on all models with cloth interior. The Camry was the first true joint venture between the Toyota Motor Corporation engineering department in Japan, and Toyota Technical Center, U.S.A., Inc.
