Overview
The Corvette (dubbed the C5 for 5th generation Corvette) has been heralded by major car magazines as the best all around performing Corvette since its automotive introduction in 1953. The totally redesigned and restructured chasis, frame, engine and body represent many technological production firsts. Like the use of magnesium in parts of the frame, steering column and removable roof panel. The elimination of 34% of parts from previous models removed the noise and rattle known to previous designs. The C5 also marks the debut of the use of a drive-by-wire throttle, which uses a electric motor controlled by a computer that reads a sensor at the time of acceleration. A much anticipated convertible Corvette will be available in 1998.
