Subcompact (Grouped together with Minicompact for ownership costs due to limited number of Minicompact cars.)
- EPA Size Requirement: Under 85 cu. ft. for Minicompact, 85-99 for Subcompact total interior volume.

Compact
- EPA Size Requirement: 100 to 109 cu. ft. total interior volume.

Midsize
- EPA Size Requirement: 110-119 cu. ft. total interior volume.

Large
- EPA Size Requirement: 120 cu. ft. or more of interior volume.

Base Sport
- Requirement: A performance-oriented 2-door car with a minimal power-to-weight ratio of .06:1 and 0-60 time of less then 7 seconds. These vehicles are often the sportier, higher horsepower counterparts within the model line of a manufacturer's vehicle line-up. Differentiated from Sport by price and/or market position.
- Base Sport Classification superseded by: Convertible, Luxury Convertible
Sport
- Requirement: A higher performance 2-door car with a minimal power-to-weight ratio of .08:1 and 0-60 time of less then 5.5 seconds.
Sport Sedan/Wagon
- Requirement: A performance-oriented 4-door car with a minimal power-to-weight ratio of .07:1 and 0-60 time of less then 6 seconds. These vehicles are often the sportier, higher horsepower counterparts within the model line of a manufacturer's vehicle line-up. Differentiated from Sport and Base Sport by bodystyle.

Near Luxury
- Requirement: Market position within manufacturer's line-up as a Near Luxury vehicle or determined by class of nearest competitors. Generally differentiated from Luxury by price and by other passenger car classes by Brand.
- Near Luxury classification superseded by: Sport Sedan/Wagon, Convertible, Luxury Convertible
Luxury
- Requirement: Market position within manufacturer's line-up as a Luxury vehicle or determined by class of nearest competitors. Generally differentiated from Near Luxury by price and other passenger car classes by Brand.

Convertible
- Requirement: May be soft or hard top convertible/cabriolet bodystyle. Generally differentiated from Luxury Convertible by price and/or Brand. Convertible Classification superseded by: Sport
Luxury Convertible
- Requirement: May be soft or hard top convertible/cabriolet bodystyle. Generally differentiated from Convertible by price and/or Brand. Luxury Convertible Classification superseded by: Sport
Small Wagon
- EPA Size Requirement: Total interior volume less than 130 cu. ft.
- EPA Size classification superseded by: Sport Sedan/Wagon
Midsize Wagon
- EPA Size Requirement: Total interior volume of more than 130 cu. ft.

Small Crossover (Grouped together for ownership costs due to limited number of Small Sport Utility Vehicles)
- Size Requirement: Both Flat Box size (overall length x width) and Box size (volume of overall length x width x height) are evaluated and vehicles within a certain range are classified by size. Crossover vehicles will be of unibody construction on a car-based platform with similar ride and handling characteristics to cars and market position of a Crossover vehicle. Often appears SUV or wagon-like in appearance and will sometimes have a lower roof line and step-in height.

Intermediate Utility
- Size Requirement: Both Flat Box size (overall length x width) and Box size (volume of overall length x width x height) are evaluated and vehicles within a certain range are classified by size. Intermediate SUV Classification superseded by: Midsize Crossover, Luxury Utility
Midsize Crossover
- Size Requirement: Both Flat Box size (overall length x width) and Box size (volume of overall length x width x height) are evaluated and vehicles within a certain range are classified by size. Crossover vehicles will be of unibody construction on a car-based platform with similar ride and handling characteristics to cars and market position of a Crossover vehicle. - Requirement: Class encompasses different sized vehicles. Crossover vehicles will be of unibody construction on a car-based platform with similar ride and handling characteristics to cars and market position of a Crossover vehicle. Often appears SUV or wagon-like in appearance. Differentiated from other Crossover classes by Brand and/or market position.
Small Pickup
- Size Requirement: Generally follows EPA guideline of GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of less than 4500lbs.; however, engine size, towing capacity and market position are also evaluated. Some "Small" trucks are distinctly larger than others; though lack the power and capability than that of the Full-Size truck class.
Full-Size Pickup 2WD 1/2 Ton
- Size Requirement: Generally follows EPA guideline of GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of more than 4500lbs.; however, engine size, towing capacity and market position are also evaluated. Vehicles segmented by tonnage and drive into six classes.
Full-Size Pickup 4WD 1/2 Ton
- Size Requirement: Generally follows EPA guideline of GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of more than 4500lbs.; however, engine size, towing capacity and market position are also evaluated. Vehicles segmented by tonnage and drive into six classes.
Full-Size Pickup 2WD 3/4 Ton

- Requirement: Generally 3-door, sliding door bodystyle configuration; lower overall height and smaller cargo capacity than Full-Size vans.
Full-Size Van
- Requirement: Generally 3-door, sliding door bodystyle configuration; greater overall height and larger cargo capacity than Minivans.
Cargo Van
- Requirement: Cargo van (open cargo area to the rear of the front seats) bodystyle versions from either Full-Size or Minivan classes, designed for commercial use or aftermarket customization.
