King of Camera Bling

In the span of just a few short years, video cameras pointing from the rear of the car have become a very common feature. While providing a view below the rearview mirror's effective area when parking, especially parallel, it also packs a marketing punch come shopping time. It is one of those cool features that you can't wait to show your friends.
The next frontier in camera fun made its debut here at the New York Auto Show in the guise of two new safety systems - the Lexus "Blind Corner Monitor" and Infiniti's "All Around View".
Infiniti EX Concept
"Blind Corner Monitor" is built into the new Lexus LX570 SUV, and incorporates two cameras - one built into the front grill and the second in the passenger's side mirror. A simple button push on the steering wheel blends the two images into a full view glance of the space just ahead and around the corner of the front of the vehicle. Imagine pulling out of parking structure...with caution...and this system helps you continue with confidence.
Infiniti debuted their new "All Around View" system in the EX Concept. This is the current 'King of Camera Bling', as it uses four cameras that blend their images into a simulated bird's eye or satellite view from above the vehicle. One camera is on the rear hatch, one each on both side view mirrors, and one pointing down from the Infiniti logo on the grill. All images conspire to give the driver an 'all around view' of the vehicle as it backs into a parking spot or in a similar tight squeeze. Impressive stuff and great defense against common scrapes and scuffs from parking mishaps.
