Off the Rack and Off the Hook

Just walked out of the Scion press conference and since I am sure this particular event will generate the most on-line chatter of all from Chicago, I better hurry if I want my say!
Scion ran this conference in parallel within Second Life, the bizarre yet magical world of avatars built in the image of how participants wish their real life was going. Brilliant move on behalf of Scion to include Second Life in today's plans. Solidifies their credibility among their potential owners as well as dragged the crusty ol' press corps into 2007.
2008 Scion xD
And the new cars? Let me preface these comments by noting the fact that I live in Southern California. This proviso often leads people from other parts of the country to the conclusion that I may not understand the rest of the country and what is driving today's automotive consumers. But I offer an alternate view - that the rest of the country doesn't understand the influence of SoCal. The "import friendly" coasts that were seen as anomaly just 10 years ago are becoming the norm. Take a look at the recent market share reports. Toyota and Honda are Hyundai not succeeding purely on the merits of their products and activities. Nor is it because Ford or Chrysler or Buick have completely and suddenly lost their way. It is because the cultural core of the Automotive market departs from SoCal and marches like a conquering army across the heartland.
So...back to Scion. Current xAs and xBs and tCs crisscross the LA freeway system like worker bees in a hive. But most important is the character and caliber of their drivers. They represent the soldiers that power the previously mentioned cultural march across the U.S., and in this brand, they have found their wheels. And now Toyota has been kind enough to offer a new xB and xD to further their cultural assault...both with much more power, utility, and style. If you don't think Scion is cool today, you will tomorrow.
