As regular readers of this column can attest, the auto show season provides a ton of fuel for automotive discussions and dreams. Just a few weeks ago the Geneva event wrapped up, and now we can enjoy all the flash and glitz of the New York International Auto Show.

Concept cars always draw a big crowd and New York will see the intros of the Scion Hako coupe, which is a likely glimpse at the next-gen tC coupe. Suzuki is going to make a big impression with the final piece in the Kizashi trio that it promises is going to guide style direction for their future products. And I say "Yes, please!"

This show is going to introduce us to a group of new 2009 vehicles that will have an impact on future overall sales. Be sure to check out the freshened Mercedes-Benz ML Class and the all-new Acura TSX, Honda Fit, Dodge Challenger V6, Nissan Maxima, Kia Soul, Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, Porsche Boxster RS 60, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and, if you can believe it, a return to a wild vehicle of the past (think El Camino) in the guise of the hot Pontiac G8...but in this case, a pickup truck version.

Of the U.S. based events, the NY show is all about style. Celebrities often make special appearances, and the displays and general atmosphere take on a Hollywood-type feeling. (And that's odd since the LA show has raised its prominence in recent years but has taken on more of a "green" or environmental angle.) But most importantly, an auto show is a perfect chance to kick some tires and smell some leather without the bother of a pesky salesperson. The media (and yours truly) will be taking it all in this week, and then the Javits Center will open its doors to the public from March 21st through March 30th. Drop me an email if you see something special or have any questions at james_bell@intellichoice.com. But most importantly, have fun!
