2006 Toyota RAV4 Auto Show Photo

The Toyota RAV4 can lay claim to pioneering the car-based sport/cute movement 11 years ago. Here, in Frankfurt, Toyota unveiled the third-generation RAV4 during a contortionist's performance. An odd entertainment choice, as this new RAV4 has grown to measure nearly as long as the Highlander, almost bumping up a complete vehicle size. Part of the dimensions are exaggerated by rear bumper depth and the hood length, but no one will be calling this new model cute. Within the more masculine exterior is a feature-filled interior, with numerous notable touches such as illuminated cup holder, upper glovebox, and magic fold-flat second-row seats. Three powerplants were announced from Europe: 2.0L/152-hp, 2.2L/136-hp diesel, and 2.2L/177-hp diesel. The big news not disclosed for the U.S. market is the first-time offering of a V-6. Destined to be the strongest in the class, we hear it will output [dramatic pause] 268 horsepower. Also, a hybrid variation is expected to follow within a year. Who you callin' cute?
