2006 Skoda Octavia RS Auto Show Photo

In introducing the Skoda Octavia RS, the firm has resurrected the RS model subtype designation used since the 1970s for its competition-bred cars. Its 130 RS model won its class in European touring car racing in 1981, and it achieved a measure of success in the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally. The current Octavia RS, available as both a hatchback and sedan, pays homage to its predecessor with performance that makes the RS the most powerful Skoda in production. At the heart of the matter is VAG's 2.0-liter TFSI engine that produces 200 bhp, and 280 Nm of torque from 1800 to 5000 rpm. The TFSI is a turbocharged unit with its claim to fame as being the first gasoline engine to inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber, and it features double counter-balance shafts for smooth operation. A number of visual cues tip the hand and reveal this is not an ordinary Octavia. From the two exclusive colors (Race Blue and Sprint Yellow) to the lowered stance, front and rear spoilers, and color-coded bodywork, it screams get out of the way -- or maybe it's the retina-burning yellow paint.
