2006 Mini Cooper Special Editions Auto Show Photo

While the Mini Concept Frankfurt (aka Traveller) was the center of attention in the Mini booth, there were three special-edition models on display that warranted a closer look, as they are on sale in the U.S. as well as Europe. Sounding like a Milton Bradley triumvirate, the Mini One Seven, Mini Cooper Park Lane, and Mini Cooper S Checkmate each splash more character on the spunky hatchback. The Seven comes in an exclusive metallic Solar Red, though the roof can be black, silver, or white. The car is further distinguished with “7” decals on the front fenders, 15-inch Delta Spoke wheels, fog lamps, white directionals, and a rear spoiler. Equipped with a leather steering wheel, air conditioning, ASC+T, radio Wave, on-board computer, and height-adjustable seats, the Seven also features obligatory logo stitching on the seats. The Park Lane adds a premium flair with a silver roof, hood strips, chrome accents, and 16-inch Bridge Spoke wheels. The leather-swathed interior features nicely piped, two-tone seats and more chromework. The stunner of the three is the Checkmate, with the flashy checkerboard fender decal and hood stripes. Painted in Space Blue, the Checkmate has a contrasting hood, silver mirror caps, and 17-inch wheels. The two-tone seats and steering wheel give the interior some visual excitement. In addition to the equipment shared with the Seven and the Park Lane, the Checkmate is fitted with a sport-tuned suspension.
