2007 Kia Magentis Auto Show Photo

Buyers in Europe only have to wait until the spring of 2006 to slide behind the wheel of the all-new Kia Magentis, the firm's latest D-Segment offering and flagship. Based on its new independently developed MG Platform, the Magentis shares few parts with Hyundai-brand products with the exception of some drivetrain components. The MG platform will be used in future for the company's Carens replacement. Intending to be a world car, the Magentis was designed by teams in Korea, the United States, and here in Germany, where the company announced the founding of a new European Headquarters in Frankfurt. The Frankfurt mayor spoke at the car's introduction, and of the firm's commitment to the European market. With its European performance aspirations, Kia offers three powerplants, one fueled by diesel and two by gasoline. The top of the line is a CVVT 2.7-liter V6 with 188 ponies on tap. Interiors in Europe will have special seats with increased side bolsters and interior trim. Kia optimistically expects to sell 99,000 units by the end of next year, with 75,000 going to the U.S. Market, 9000 for Europe and 15,000 for other markets.
