2007 Mercedes-Benz R63 AMG Auto Show Photo

This might be another case of answering a question nobody asked, but imagine six people in a vehicle that does 0-60 mph in less than five seconds, and you’ll see the world’s fastest people-mover. The R63 presented at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show comes with AMG’s new 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8, rated 503 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. That torque number also allows AMG’s first coupling with Mercedes’ smooth seven-speed automatic transmission (also in the ML63 AMG). The tranny puts that power through 20-inch wheels and tires all around, using Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, but you’ll need optional winter tires to make this a true all-season hot rod. The 6.3, a nod to the Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 of the late-60s and early-‘70s, is the first AMG engine built from the ground-up, with no pre-existing Benz engine as its basis.
