Chevrolet Camaro Concept Auto Show Photo
The crowd of rabid fans roared and cheered when the Chevrolet Camaro concept made its debut in Detroit. Chevy’s Camaro Concept embodies the performance and passion that have made first-generation Camaros some of the most sought-after cars in history, updating the formula with a fuel-efficient powertrain, sophisticated chassis, and contemporary design execution. The long hood, short deck, and wide stance of the Camaro Concept leave no doubt that it is a serious performance car. A prominent front grille and hood bulge do more than hint at the power underneath, while large wheels and tires, exposed high-performance brakes, and prominent fender shapes indicate that the Camaro Concept has high-performance handling and braking as well. Those looks are backed up by the latest generation of GM’s legendary 6.0-liter LS2 aluminum small-block V-8 engine, a six-speed manual transmission, and a sophisticated chassis with four-wheel independent suspension. Paired with an Active Fuel Management system that shuts off four cylinders to save fuel when the engine is lightly loaded, this concept version of the LS2 is rated at 400 horsepower, but could also deliver more than 30 mpg at highway speeds. Though officially labeled a concept, Chevy will consider customer reaction to its design and engineering elements when considering a future version of the Camaro.
