2007 Chevrolet Avalanche Auto Show Photo

Like the Tahoe and Suburban, the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche is also based on the GMT900 platform. The new truck, on sale this summer, is offered in two- and four-wheel drive, and the Z71 off-road package will be available later in the model year. The Avalanche goes on sale with a 5.3-liter/320-horsepower V-8 with Active Fuel Management cylinder shutoff (an aluminum-block 310-horsepower 5.3 is standard in 4WD models), and will later be offered with an all-aluminum, 6.0-liter/355-horse V-8 with AFM and variable valve timing. All Avalanches come with the Hydra-Matic 4L60 four-speed automatic transmission. The key feature of the Avalanche is its flexibility—the Midgate design returns for 2007, providing seating for six when the rear seat is up and the Midgate is closed. Open the Midgate and fold the rear seat, and the 5.3-foot bed is expanded to 8.2 feet (two inches longer than the previous Avalanche). There also will be engines available that run on E85.
