Subaru Impreza WRX Auto Show Photo

The new face of Subaru continues its propagation through the line, spreading from the B9 Tribeca to the revised Impreza range, where the gaping Koala bear grille sits more comfortably. The headlamps take on a more complex shape, giving the visage a premium appearance. The WRX is now offered in five basic flavors, with new, lower-priced WRX TR sedan, a modestly outfitted midlevel sedan and wagon, and a range-topping sedan and wagon dressed with leather and all the trimmings. For enthusiasts, the biggest news is the replacement of the 2.0L/217-hp turbo I-4 engine with a larger 2.5L/230-hp force-fed four that pushes torque output to 235 lb-ft. The resultant gain in mid-range power makes the WRX more entertaining than before, and decidedly quicker off the line. Other performance enhancements include new aluminum suspension bits, quicker steering ratio, larger 17-inch wheels, and wider tires. Enhancements to the WRX STI are focused on improving the AWD system and making subtle, midlife exterior updates. Much attention was spent on improving aerodynamics, leading to underbody diffuser, new side sills, and lower-profile hood scoop.
