2007 SsangYong Kyron Auto Show Photo

After an initial unveiling in Seoul, the Kyron crossover made its European debut in Frankfurt. Penned by British Creative Director Ken Greenley, the Kyron is the company's attack on the emerging sports activity vehicle market around the globe, with consideration given to North America. SsangYong had flirted in the past with the idea of selling in the States and reportedly hasn't lost that ambition. The Kyron is a five-seater with an independent suspension and generous roster of safety gear, including anti-lock brakes with EBD, brake assist, active rollover protection, and hill descent control. The real hook for the SsangYong brand may be the credibility gained from its Mercedes-Benz-sourced engines. Targeting the European market, SsangYong touted the available 2.0L/140-hp common-rail diesel engine, though surely Mercedes could cut loose a more robust powerplant for other markets. The Kyron goes on sale overseas early 2006.
