Porsche Cayman S Auto Show Photo

Porsche has found its sweet spot with the world debut of the Cayman S. Based on the Boxster S platform, the Cayman combines mid-engine handling capabilities with VarioCam Plus engine technologies borrowed from the Carrera S parts bin. Add the stylish hardtop design to the mix, and the result is a Cayman S with rigidity near that of the Carrera. In terms of comparative performance, lap times on the Nuerburgring show the Cayman S coming in ahead of the Boxster S, and just behind the 911 Carrera. For those who want more, performance options abound: Porsche offers its Sports Chronos package, said to shave Nuerburgring lap times by 3 seconds; an Active Suspension Management system allows a driver to choose between two different performance settings; and finally, Porsche's Ceramic Composite Brake system offers lighter weight and better heat capabilities. Consumers have been asking for something like the Cayman S for some time, and what they get is a car greater than the sum of its parts.
