Ford iosis Auto Show Photo

With the striking iosis concept, Ford is revealing the realized design language that will be used on all future Ford of Europe vehicles. The style is called kinetic by Ford, and the goal is to express in the sheetmetal the exciting vehicle dynamics Blue Oval vehicles are known for in Europe. The sweeping arcs give this four-door sedan a decidedly coupe profile, with smooth surfaces, crisp lines, and dramatic wheel arches. Beyond the upscale appearance, the most standout elements on the iosis are the carbon-fiber doors. The motorized portals swing the doors both outward and up, opening the entire side of the car, but requiring a ducking motion to enter. The interior is pure show-car science-fiction, with an octagonal steering wheel and wild surfaces and shapes wrapped in leather. Beyond the immediate visual dazzle, there are a number of interesting features, such as the gearshift mounted right snug to the steering wheel, integrated Memory Stick slots, and monitors for three rearward-facing video cameras. The name iosis is an alchemic term referring to the final stage of the transformation of base metal into gold. Very apropos. Ford could use such magic Stateside, as well.
