2006 Fisker Tramonto Auto Show Photo

Henrik Fisker is on the cusp of realizing the dream that most car enthusiasts harbor: launching your own car company. The SoCal-based Fisker Coachbuild will create a limited series of special, rebodied production cars in the old coach-building tradition that resulted in the most memorable classic Duesenbergs and Ferraris. Henrik is supremely qualified to launch this ambitious plan, with such cars as the Aston Martin DB9, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and BMW Z8 to his credit. The concept distills down to Henrik taking premier automobiles and designing fresh bodywork for them, with materials emphasis on aluminum and carbon-fiber, and also pressed steel. The car designs will have their own unique character, but be united by a common grille theme, inspired by the Raptor fighter plane. Fisker unveiled its first two models in Frankfurt, the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG-based Tramonto roadster and the BMW 6 Series-based Latigo CS. Customers will be able to order a complete car, or deliver a production Mercedes or BMW for transformation. Both models are available with numerous performance upgrades. Production volume targets are 150 units per series, with the intent to continuously move on to fresh designs. Base price for either model was said to be $110,000 Euros (about $135,000 U.S.).
