An emerging trend that has little current relevance to North American buyers is the urban car market is going up-market with expressive products and Renault gave some insight on their direction with the diminutive Zoe. What makes the Zoe unique is its three-passenger configuration as Renault's research shows that the average car carries only 1.4 people but strict two-passenger cars are seen as a negative. The third occupant sits behind the front passenger (whose seat folds flat for added versatility) while the space behind the driver is dedicated to cargo and storage. The short hood conceals an advanced Renault 1.2-liter turbocharged engine that should give the lightweight Zoe exceptional performance and economy.
