2006 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Auto Show Photo

Mercedes-Benz, who used Geneva to launch a massive diesel initiative, building on their 70 years of diesel heritage, introduced the innovative B-Class sports tourer, slotted in size between the existing A-Class not available in North America and the well-known C-Class. With its unique space-saving layout that places the engine and transmission in front of and below the passenger cell, the compact 170.8-inches-long five-door has rear seat room that approaches that of the S-Class sedan. Four state-of-the-art four-cylinder gasoline engines will be offered in the B-Class with 95 to 193 horsepower on tap. Two diesels, 1.8- and 2.0-liters, round out the lineup. With sharp styling, interior versatility and high-quality materials throughout, the expansive B-Class is sure to find favor with continental customers and might even find their way across the Atlantic at some point down the road.
