For 2012, the Buick LaCrosse is available in ten trims, and has rebadged the line-up. This year's LaCrosse is now available with a lighter weight, more powerful and capable V6 engine. Also new on LaCrosse, is eAssist technology, which uses a lithium-ion battery and a compact electric motor to boost the efficiency of the standard 2.4L four-cylinder engine. Regenerative braking recharges the battery. With eAssist, as well as some underbody aerodynamic modifications, the new powertrain sees an estimated 25% increase in fuel economy, over the 2011 four-cylinder/six-speed automatic models. An Eco gauge continuously displays data based on driving dynamics, which then allows the driver to monitor performance and make adjustments in behavior to achieve maximum efficiency. The V6 engine is offered as a no charge option in lieu of the four-cylinder engine if desired.
