The 2011 Audi R8 is offered in 4.2 and 5.2 quattro coupe models, each paired with both a manual or automatic transmission available, and the all-new Spyder convertible now available with the V8 or V10. The 5.2L V10 engine produces 525 horsepower and with the manual transmission, weighs in at only 3571 pounds. The softop on the new convertible is said to deploy in just 19 seconds at speeds up to 30 miles per hour. The distinctive carbon fiber side blades on the R8 coupe (not utilized on the Spyder) are functional, but they are also designed to break up the exterior visually as to "shorten" the car's appearance. The R8 V10 was named as the 2010 World Performance Car at the World Car of the Year Awards ceremony at the New York Auto Show last year.
