New for 2011, the Volkswagen Touareg has been updated for the model year and features a freshened design, revised powertrain and trim choices, as well as an all-new Hybrid model. In addition to the 3.6LV6 supercharged Hybrid powerplant, a 3.0L V6 turbo TDI and 3.6L V6 FSI are also available. All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, as well as VW's 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. Hybrid models feature a unique Stop/Start system whereby the engine is automatically stopped during idling when the foot pedal brake is engaged. The engine auto restarts once the driver's foot is lifted off the break. Three trims are offered--Sport, Lux and Executive, and each features distinctive wheels for that model. The power tailgate of the Touareg may now be operated from inside the vehicle, as well as from the key fob.
