As a late entry into the 2005 model year, the re-designed New Jetta is available in three models: Value Edition, 2.5L, and TDI. A new 2.5L five-cylinder engine producing 150 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque replaces the 2.0L four-cylinder engine as the base engine. All models come equipped with a five-speed manual transmission or can be upgraded to a six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and sport mode selection. For the first time, the New Jetta will employ a fully independent suspension system that uses multi-link rear and optimized front axle. The exterior of the New Jetta is now seven inches longer in over-all length, nearly three inches longer in wheelbase, and one inch wider in width. Interior dimensions have also increased.
