2005 Ford Escape Hybrid 4WD 4Dr SUV Crash Test Ratings
MSRP: $28,455
Ford claims the first entry into the hybrid SUV segment with the introduction of the new Escape Hybrid. The powertrain consists of several components, including an efficient 2.3L gas engine, a 65-kWatt electric motor, a 28-kWatt generator, a continuously variable transmission, and a 330-volt hybrid battery. All this allows for the Escape to maintain continuous power, never having to be plugged in. The Gas and electric motors combine to produce 155 horsepower, while still boasting a 35-mpg fuel rating in the city. Available in FWD or 4WD, the Escape offers several luxury options such as leather seating, a side-impact air bag canopy, a Mach audio system with six-disc CD changer, and a navigation system.
